He studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts (1907-09) and the Munich Academy under Balthasar Schmitt (1909-11) and Hermann Hahn (1913-14). After military service and being wounded in 1916, he switched from sculpture to painting, studying under Hugo von Habermann and Angelo Jank (1916-19). He studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts (1907-09) and the Munich Academy under Balthasar Schmitt (1909-11) and Hermann Hahn (1913-14). After military service and being wounded in 1916, he switched from sculpture to painting, studying under Hugo von Habermann and Angelo Jank (1916-19). He worked as a commercial artist and increasingly as a painter from 1928. He was a member of the Reich Association of German Visual Artists and worked mainly in Munich, with a temporary stay in Kempten after 1945.
