She studied at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana University, and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. She later moved to Nashville in Brown County, Indiana where she studied with Adolph Shulz, an early founder of the Brown County Art Colony. She studied at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana University, and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. She later moved to Nashville in Brown County, Indiana where she studied with Adolph Shulz, an early founder of the Brown County Art Colony. In 1926, after the divorce from his first wife, artist Ada Shulz, Alberta and Adolph were married.
