Aleksandr Vasil'evich Gine (1830-1880) . He was a classmate of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1832-1898), probably one of the most famous Russian landscape painters of the second half of the 19th century. They both strived for a career as a painter and Shishkin became an important source of inspiration in many ways. From about 1855 to 1865 Gine studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.
