Artist Alexius Geyer was born in 1816. Alexius Geyer trained at the Berlin Academy and traveled to Italy in 1840. In 1841 he was appointed President of the Ponte Molle Society in Rome, and was co-founder of the German Art Association in Italy in 1845. Travels took Alexius to Naples and Sicily. After these travels and the request of the Greek King, he went, in 1847, on a long, extended study trip to Greece and the Middle East. In 1841 he was appointed President of the Ponte Molle Society in Rome, and was co-founder of the German Art Association in Italy in 1845. Travels took Alexius to Naples and Sicily. After these travels and the request of the Greek King, he went, in 1847, on a long, extended study trip to Greece and the Middle East. During this trip Geyer made numerous studies that served as of motifs for later executed paintings. Back in Berlin, he presented it to the Academy exhibitions. In the exhibition catalog of 1852 is a painting Geyer entitled "Athens". Alexius Geyer passed away in 1883.
