She also studied with John Enneking and Margaret Fitzhugh Browne in Boston and with Emile Gruppe in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Her works were extensively exhibited and she received many awards for her paintings. These included the Kramer-Montgomery medal at Ogunquit for the best painting by a woman and two Sue Hasty Safford awards for her work as an illustrator and landscape painter. James was a member of...
