In 1897 he received a scholarship in Paris, attending the Julian Academy and being a disciple of Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. In 1897 he received a scholarship in Paris, attending the Julian Academy and being a disciple of Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. In 1900 Carneiro was awarded a medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. He also became famous as a portraitist. He was an author of poetry and a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Porto.
