Born in Barcelona as Juan-Antonio Parras Monlat, he had several jobs, such as assistant chemist, secretary of a lawyer and as a retoucher in a printing house, prior to his career in comics. His first comics were published in the Spanish magazines El Globo ('El Duende') and KKO ('La Dama del Antifaz'), both of the publishing house De Haro, in 1950.
