Son of the painter Joan Vila i Cinca (co-founder of the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell), and father of the painter Joan Vila-Grau, Antonio Vila Arrufat trained mainly with his father and in the School of La Lonja in Barcelona, to finally finish his studies in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, in Madrid, thanks to a scholarship granted by the town council of Sabadell.
