In 1963 Coen begins to incorporate figurative and surrealist elements into his work, he ads texture and aspects of fantasy. Arnaldo Coen, a self-taught artist began painting in 1956 with the encouragement of Diego Rivera, the prevailing New York Abstract Expressionist Movement and graphic design influenced his early work from 1956 to 1960, as he worked in the studio of Gordon Jones. In 1963 Coen begins to incorporate figurative and surrealist elements into his work, he ads texture and aspects of fantasy. In 1967 the artist receives a French Government grant and goes to Paris to continue his studies, where he is soon to become a founding member of the Salon Independiente. Arnaldo Coen's work is well represented in various collections and Museums in Mexico City and Paris as well as elsewhere in Mexico and the United States.
