In 1886, he took a painting apprenticeship and took drawing classes with Professor Düyffcke in the trade school. From 1889 to 1892, he studied at the Academy in Munich with Professors Lesker and Herterich. In 1893, Arthur did a study visit with Ernst Eitner and Thomas Fall in the Alster. In 1897 Illies was co-founder of the Hamburg Artist clubs. In 1906, he became a member of the German Association of Artists. Starting in 1908, Illies was a professor at the State School of Applied Arts in Hamburg. A. Illies created an extensive photographic work, and was the author of numerous poems.... Read full biography
