He studied five years at the Pape School of Design, Boston, Massachusetts, and also was tutored by George Loftus Noyes (1864-1954) and Charles Herbert Woodbury (1864-1940). In 1905, Hammond and his wife, Ruth Freese Hammond, traveled for two and one half years in England, Wales, France, Belgium and Holland, where he studied and made some 300 paintings, particularly...
