This led him to take classes at the Santa Anita Outdoor Painting School where he met Julio Castellanos, Gabriel Fernández Ledesma and Rufino Tamayo. Augustin Lazo entered the School of Architecture continuing his family tradition, but a year later Alfredo Ramos Martínez invited him to become his student. This led him to take classes at the Santa Anita Outdoor Painting School where he met Julio Castellanos, Gabriel Fernández Ledesma and Rufino Tamayo. In 1917, he attended the National School of Fine Arts, where he took classes with Saturnino Herrán, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano and Abraham Ángel. Lazo reached maturity as a painter in the 1920s, moving away from the political imagery championed by the muralists.
