Claude Lovat Fraser (1890-1921) was a British artist from London, studying at the Westminister School of Art under Walter Sickert. He was a close friend of art critic Haldane MacFall (1860-1928), who introduced him to many important names in the theatre world and with whom he worked on a number of projects, including illustrating MacFall's essay The Splendid Wayfairing. Fraser fought in France during World War One, becoming wounded during a gas attack before being sent home suffering with shell-shock in 1916, serving out the remainder of the war on English soil. In 1917 he married American actress Grace Inez Crawford and through her encouragement continued to be involved in theatrical and costume design. Grace and Claude Lovat became close...
