David McClure was born in Lochwinnoch, Scotland, in 1926. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art alongside artists such as Elizabeth Blackadder, David Michie, James Cummings and William Baillie. During the 1950's, McClure painted in Spain, Millport, Florence and Sicily, focusing on still life and landscapes. During the 1960's, his style changed, taking influences from the likes of John Maxwell. His work often represented depictions of his daughter Paola, and wife Joyce. His work continued... During the 1960's, his style changed, taking influences from the likes of John Maxwell. His work often represented depictions of his daughter Paola, and wife Joyce. His work continued to evolve throughout his career, taking influence from fellow Edinburgh artists and Post-Impressionism. McClure took over as the Head of Paintings at Dundee College of Art in 1983.
