Demetrio Diego (1909-1988) studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. He was an illustrator at Tribune and Taliba in the 1920's and later chief artist of the Sunday Times Magazine from the 1950s to the early 70's. His style was "robust, tonal values refined and dramatic, thus ideal for the illustration of short stories and serialized novels." He served as an art consultant of Times publications in 1970 when he began to paint earnestly. He leaned towards green and earth-brown hues... Read full biography

He was an illustrator at Tribune and Taliba in the 1920's and later chief artist of the Sunday Times Magazine from the 1950s to the early 70's. His style was "robust, tonal values refined and dramatic, thus ideal for the illustration of short stories and serialized novels." He served as an art consultant of Times publications in 1970 when he began to paint earnestly. He leaned towards green and earth-brown hues in landscape renditions of his hometown under Van Gogh influence. Last works were painted on an antique wooden doors and windows instead of canvas.
