Mainly self-taught, Seamon took a home-study art course after winning a poster contest in the seventh grade. After graduating from high school in 1929, he worked at the Paramount Studios in Minneapolis, where he briefly took private art lessons under Gene Hundermark and Walter J. Wilwerding. When the Depression hit in 1931 he returned to Terre Haute and began work at Thomas-Symon, a company that manufactured posters. Seamon served as Art Director at Thomas-Symon for over thirty years.
