He completed his classical* studies at the college Domenge in 1880, and at the behest of the family, he pursued a military career. However, in a short time, overcoming resistance of his father, he was able to enroll at the Accademia di Belle Arti* in Florence. Around 1885 he began recurring trips to Paris with friends E. Fabbri and A. Müller, during which he met Manet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Cézanne. Their influence, together with spending time in the atelier of Giovanni Boldini, proved crucial for influencing him to think beyond academic precepts.
