Erich Gruner was born in 1881, and was a painter, draftsman and printmaker. Gruner studied at the Royal Academy of Graphic Arts and Printing Arts in Leipzig. From 1905-06, the artist studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, with Jean-Paul Laurens, among others. Gruner took study trip to Normandy, Brittany and Belgium.
