He received the Rome Prize and spent the years 1905-6 on a study trip to Rome. Until 1926 he was active in Berlin. In the years 1927 to 1935 he led the sculpture workshop at the School of Arts and Crafts in Königsberg. In 1935 he became a lecturer at the Higher School of Art in Kassel.
