Ernest Faut was born in 1879. Trained under Constant Montald at the Brussels Academy, Ernest Faut then studied under the sculptor Constantin Meunier in Leuven. Imbued with a hazy melancholy, his landscapes, interior scenes, and religious scenes of churches and beguinages all display a strong technique modulated by a delicate and sensitive chromatic palette, entirely in chiaroscuro. Ernest Faut was born in 1879. Trained under Constant Montald at the Brussels Academy, Ernest Faut then studied under the sculptor Constantin Meunier in Leuven. Imbued with a hazy melancholy, his landscapes, interior scenes, and religious scenes of churches and beguinages all display a strong technique modulated by a delicate and sensitive chromatic palette, entirely in chiaroscuro. In the 1930s, his work consisted primarily of Symbolist scenes in the Art Nouveau style. Faut was a professor and then director for forty years until 1944 at the Leuven Academy. Ernest Faut's works are exhibited in several Belgian museums, notably the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent. Ernest Faut passed away in 1961.
