Ernest Williams Christmas was born in Adelaide, South Australia. He studied art in Paris and then lived in England where he was made a member of the Royal Academy. Yearning for new frontiers, he ventured to Argentina and Chile where he painted mountains and lakes, and then to San Francisco where he resided in 1900 and then again in 1915. Yearning for new frontiers, he ventured to Argentina and Chile where he painted mountains and lakes, and then to San Francisco where he resided in 1900 and then again in 1915. Between those years, he lived and painted in New Zealand and exhibited most prominently at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1906. Honolulu’s Paradise of the Pacific magazine featured his oil and watercolor landscapes after his arrival here, including a painting of the volcanic crater of Haleakala. He painted scenes on O?ahu, Maui, and Hawai?i. His plan to visit the islands of the South Pacific,... Read full biography
