Ernst Samuel Geiger first studied medicine in Basel, later on forestry and botany in Zurich. After his graduation in 1900, he taught at various schools and, besides, he became a self-taught painter and graphic artist. He received important stimulus on study trips to Munich, Paris and Upper Italy. 1906/07 he lived in Lauenen, then four years in Bern, then in Twann and starting from 1918 in Ligerz. He received important stimulus on study trips to Munich, Paris and Upper Italy. 1906/07 he lived in Lauenen, then four years in Bern, then in Twann and starting from 1918 in Ligerz. Geiger used warm, bright colors applied with powerful brush strokes. His views of Lake Biel were particularly popular.
