From 1864 to 1872, Roesler was secretary of the British consul in Rome, through which he came into contact with various well-known landscape painters. In 1875 he finally turned to painting. His interest was in his hometown of Rome, where he made sketches and photographs on site, which he then worked on in watercolors. In these pictures he tried to hide the current changes of the city, he showed mainly the village character of the city. Roesler's watercolors were exhibited in Berlin, Paris, Munich, Stuttgart and Dresden. The artist passed away in 1907 in Rome.... Read full biography
