Feodor Zakharov was born in 1882 in Astrakhan, Russia and studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Feodor Zakharov was born in 1882 in Astrakhan, Russia and studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He came to the United States in 1924 and eventually took American citizenship. Throughout his long life, Zakharov remained true to his academic training. His art serenely ignored the succession of modernist movements that agitated the twentieth century. Zakharov achieved modest success in the 1920s and 30s as a society portrait painter.
