In 1907 he moved to Rome where he attended the courses of the Academy of Fine Arts and the free school of the nude. Among the teachers there wer Giuseppe Cellini, among the classmates were Cipriano Efisio Oppo, Amerigo Bartoli, Mario Broglio, Virgilio Guidi. Among the teachers there wer Giuseppe Cellini, among the classmates were Cipriano Efisio Oppo, Amerigo Bartoli, Mario Broglio, Virgilio Guidi. In 1911 he held his first solo show, in the Foyer of the Teatro Massimo in Syracuse. In 1913 he began to frequent the studio of Enrico Lionne (1875-1921) confirming his tendency towards pointillist painting, which was very popular in Rome at the time.
