As a young child he and his family immigrated to the United States where he was raised in New York City and attended public schools. He began his art studies at The Art Students League, studying with George Luks, and at the National Academy of Design. For a short time, he was a student of Howard Giles, an exponent of dynamic symmetry. In the 1920's he pursued his studies further in Paris, Florence, and Rome, torn, as he said, "between the modern and the Old Masters." . Working as a freelance artist until 1934, he then joined Young & Rubicam, the advertising agency, where he served as vice president and head of the Art Department for twelve... Read full biography

He began his art studies at The Art Students League, studying with George Luks, and at the National Academy of Design. For a short time, he was a student of Howard Giles, an exponent of dynamic symmetry.
