He emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1867, and subsequently lived in Hamilton, Ontario (1871-1874), Toronto (1874 -1879) and London, Ontario (1881 -1888) before moving permanently to Toronto in 1888 where, except for travel, he lived for the rest of his life.
