Frederick de Moucheron was born in 1633 in Emden, Germany. Frederick was apprenticed to the landscape painter Jan Asselijn and then traveled to France, staying in Lyon and Paris in 1656. According to Houbraken, he met Theodor Helmbreker in Paris, who is said to have added the figures for several of Frederik’s compositions. Moucheron may never visited Italy, but painted southern landscapes in an Italianate style and in the 1660s also took to producing park scenes populated with elegantly dressed... Read full biography

According to Houbraken, he met Theodor Helmbreker in Paris, who is said to have added the figures for several of Frederik’s compositions. Moucheron may never visited Italy, but painted southern landscapes in an Italianate style and in the 1660s also took to producing park scenes populated with elegantly dressed figures.
