The artist Georg Breitwieser, first of all known for his still lifes, completed his training as a glass painter before studying at the Darmstadt artists' colony and later at the art school of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin. In 1921, Breitwieser returned to Darmstadt, where he worked as a freelance painter. His works, which forego the impression of depth and preferably have a darker color, contain some of the features of the New Objectivity.
