Little is known about George Arnald's early life, but it seems that he was a pupil of the landscape painter and engraver William Pether, and first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1788. In 1825, George Arnald worked for the Duke of Gloucester and, two years later, exhibited his most famous painting, The Destruction of the Orient during the Battle of the Nile, August 1, 1798, at the British Institution.
