He was born and raised and educated in Chicago, attending Wright Junior College from 1961 to 1962 and the School of Professional Art from 1963 to 1964. From 1962 to 1965, he was a commercial artist and director of the Village Art School in Skokie, and from 1971 to 1973, he was an instructor of Oil Painting and Life Drawing at the Phoenix Art Museum.
