Suddenly he felt severe pains in his abdomen. Concerned students rushed him to St Vincent's Hospital where he was treated with antibiotics and spent a peaceful night. But on Wednesday morning, May 10, 2000, Australia's greatest living exponent of the Max Meldrum school of Tonal Impressionism suffered a massive heart attack and died.
