It served as an exhibition and sales outlet for member artists on a non-profit basis for perhaps 25 years. Engle, who was well-known as a painter and "art commentator" in the Chicago area was asked to be the director and manager of the Galleries and it ended his career as a painter, becoming a dealer as the manager of the association.
