Harry Epworth Allen (1894 - 1958) Born in Sheffield, Allen worked as private secretary to Arthur Balfon in his steel works while studying part time at the Sheffield School of Art. He painted in oil, watercolour and tempura and produced many characteristic landscapes of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. He visited Ireland for the first time in 1936 with fellow Sheffield artist W.A Gunn and the Irish landscape, particularly the West Coast of Ireland became his new source of inspiration. These... Harry Epworth Allen (1894 - 1958) Born in Sheffield, Allen worked as private secretary to Arthur Balfon in his steel works while studying part time at the Sheffield School of Art. He painted in oil, watercolour and tempura and produced many characteristic landscapes of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. He visited Ireland for the first time in 1936 with fellow Sheffield artist W.A Gunn and the Irish landscape, particularly the West Coast of Ireland became his new source of inspiration. These paintings proved to be popular and the majority were sold through the Belfast art dealer, Walter Magee.
