His teachers were, for instance, the landscape painter Eugen Dücker, whose master student he became in 1889. In the same year Hermanns and a number of other Dücker-students founded the ‘Lucas-Club’, which was intended to be an advanced association of landscape painters. Hermanns’ works are inspired by the landscapes of Holland and West Germany. Later, he also created townscapes and interiors.
