The artist completed her education in far North Queensland and went on to study her degree in Indigenous Education at Deakin University in 1994. Helen began to develop her artistic talent in the early 1900’s and was involved in her first art festival in 1993. As a full time teacher, for over ten years Helen incorporated her art into her teaching, focusing on teaching young Indigenous peoples in remote communities the importance of education whilst nurturing their innate artistic abilities.
