Henri de Favanne was born in London to French parents. He was sent to France to learn the basics of hunting, but he was gifted and passionate about the arts. He studied painting with René-Antoine Houasse and won the grand prize for painting in 1693. He was admitted to the number of his Majesty's boarders in Rome in 1695. He was received at the Academy in Paris in 1701 and appointed academician in 1704. He was called to Spain by King Philippe V in 1705 and remained in his service until 1714. He... Read full biography

He studied painting with René-Antoine Houasse and won the grand prize for painting in 1693. He was admitted to the number of his Majesty's boarders in Rome in 1695. He was received at the Academy in Paris in 1701 and appointed academician in 1704. He was called to Spain by King Philippe V in 1705 and remained in his service until 1714. He was elected professor at the Academy in 1725 and rector in 1748. He participated in numerous salons between 1704 and 1751, exhibiting quality works. His painting, The Separation of Telemachus and Eucharis, is kept at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.... Read full biography
