He became a leading impressionist landscape painter in Hartford, Connecticut during the turn of the century. From 1896 to 1897, he traveled in Europe including England, France, Italy, and Holland. He became a leading impressionist landscape painter in Hartford, Connecticut during the turn of the century. From 1896 to 1897, he traveled in Europe including England, France, Italy, and Holland. He had a passion for sailing which led to his association with the Old Lyme Art Colony from 1903 to 1921. He also had a home on Shelter Island because of his friendship with artist and sailor Edward A Bell. Many of White's subjects were fishing towns of Shelter Island's North Fork. He wrote a book titled "Life and Art of Dwight William Tryon," published 1930 and was a writer for the magazine "Art in America.".... Read full biography
