He developed his own representational, figurative style in the early 1950s, featuring artists, jugglers, harlequins, and melancholic Pierrots, which were reminiscent of influences from Picasso, Beckmann, and Rouault. His early works reflected themes of death, the tragedy of human existence, and the powerlessness of man under dictatorship against the background of the state-controlled art business.
