From the end of the fifties, he left classical sculpture and joined the flow of informal abstraction. His work was influenced by artists of confrontation (Zdenek Beran) and Šmidrová (he was friends with Bedrich Dlouhý), but he especially absorbed the constructive tendencies developed by Zdenek Sýkora and Karel Malich.
