His further training with the Mannheim court painter Philipp Hieronymus Brinckmann (from 1748) was of great importance for his artistic work. His further training with the Mannheim court painter Philipp Hieronymus Brinckmann (from 1748) was of great importance for his artistic work. In Mannheim he also got to know the famous electoral painting collection there. In 1753 he took up a position with the reigning Landgrave Ludwig VIII of Hesse-Darmstadt. In addition, Seekatz also looked to Frankfurt am Main, where his mostly small-format genre pieces were extremely popular with private collectors.
