John Quincy Adams (1874-1933) was the son of an American singer at the Vienna Court Opera, and was born in 1874 in Vienna. He spent his youth in the United States and returned to Vienna in 1891, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts under S. L'Allemand and J.P. Eisenmenger from 1892-93. This period was followed by further studies at the Academy in Munich under Carl von Marr, the Académie Julian in Paris, and in London under James Whistler.
