Born in 1931 in Montmelo, Vallès Oriental, in a family dedicated to farming, Josep Baques is a surrealist painter and graphic designer. He had a difficult early life highlighted by the tragic Civil War of 1936. After the war he moved to Barcelona, completed his primary education, and at age 15 went work as an apprentice in a printmaking company in Barcelona and did his first drawings and textile printing. Despite living in a totally unfavorable environment, his great love of drawing and painting and especially his perseverance led him to discover a magical world through self-taught exploration of his own art while 'balancing' family and advertising work. In 1957, he established his first studio in Barcelona, and his work as a graphic... Read full biography
