Joseph Lindon Smith was born in Pawtucket, RI. He went to Brown University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He studied Art at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He traveled to Egypt, Japan, Manchuria, Korea, China, Cambodia, Java, India, Honduras, Yucatan and Iran studying and painting Archeological sites.
