Keith Baynes studied at the Slade School of Art from 1912-1914. He met Walter Sickert during the First World War. After the war he became friends with the artists Roger Fry, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. He exhibited with the London Artists' Association, the New English Art Club and with the London Group from 1919. He travelled extensively in the 1920s and exhibited at Agnew's, Adams Gallery and widely overseas. A retrospective exhibition in 1969 was held at The Minories, Colchester.
