Valadares is a self-taught artist who specializes in animal sculpture, particularly Iberian and African hunting, using ceramics and bronze as materials. He has recently expanded his work to include human figures and was invited by CAP to create a monument to the farmer in Rio Maior. Valadares' artwork explores the connection between humans and the earth, which is evident in his animal sculptures. He has exhibited regularly since 1990 and his work is held in private collections both in Portugal and abroad.
