He learned sculpting at the religious images studio of Martín Simón, but he preferred painting as a medium of expression. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Granada and, in 1942, visited Madrid for the first time, where he was deeply impressed by the Prado Museum. He entered the Seville School of Fine Arts in 1945 and, in 1947, exhibited his work at the Granada Press Association. In 1952, he painted frescoes in churches, public spaces and official centers.
