Mario Tozzi first began to study chemistry before enrolling at the Art Academy of Bologna, where he made the acquaintance of Giorgio Morandi and Osvaldo Licini. In 1920, he traveled to Paris and frequented the course of his regular stays in the French capital with many of the local Italian artists such as Massimo Campigli, Gino Severnini, Alberto Magnelli and Giorgio de Chirico.
