Matsumi Kanemitsu was born in Ogden, Utah on May 28, 1922 of Japanese parents. Kanemitsu was interned during WWII in detention camps. After the war he studied at the Art Students League in New York City under Yasuo Kuniyoshi. While there he became closely associated with the Abstract Expressionist School. By the early 1960s he had settled in Los Angeles and taught at Chouinard and Otis Art Institutes for 18 years. He died of lung cancer at his home in Los Angeles in May 1992. Source: Edan...
