Born in Wicklow, Michael Cullen studied at the National College of Art and Design and at the Central School of Art and Design in London. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, most recently at the Vangard Gallery, Cork, and the Taylor Galleries, Dublin. He was one of Seán McSweeney's selected painters at the Boyle Arts Festival earlier this year and was the Sunday Independent's Painter of the Year in 1998. His work is in the collection of the NGI. He was one of Seán McSweeney's selected painters at the Boyle Arts Festival earlier this year and was the Sunday Independent's Painter of the Year in 1998. His work is in the collection of the NGI. He has spent various periods living and working abroad in Spain, Morocco, the United States, Mexico and Berlin.
